October 18 ~ Catalog Shopping

Before the internet there were catalogs.  I love internet shopping now, but my first love was catalog shopping.  I loved to find my mailbox full of those slick paged wish books, and the pre-Christmas season was the best.  Curled up on the couch with a cup of tea and a stack of catalogs getting all of my gift ideas and of course making a wish list for myself too.

Today I'd like to draw your attention to some Christmas books and stories.  Start a tradition this year of reading as a family from one of these wonderful books.  You still have plenty of time to shop around for your favorites and order online if you find a good deal.

October 12 ~ Keeping track of the days

It's that time of the year when we start seeing the new calendars for next year.  Calendars come in all shapes and sizes and can even make great holiday gifts.

If you can't find the perfect calendar for you, consider creating you own design.  One year as a special holiday gift I created calendars for all of my family members.  I scanned so very old photos which I used as the monthly artwork and then added family birthdays to the appropriate day of the year.  They were a big hit and came in very handy for family members who have a hard time remembering everyone's birthday...like me.

September 21, 2010 "oh look...a tie"

     I remember with great fondness all the years of buying my Dad a tie for Christmas. He was always very gracious and acted so excited and grateful for the lovely gift. Little did I know at the time, this was just another one of the hundreds he already had hidden in his closet with the hopes that he never really had to wear any of them. Yes, I did see him wear some of them, he had a job that required a shirt and tie, but most of them were boring to say the least. 
     A tie however is still a great gift idea for the Dad who has to wear one. What is really nice though, is to make sure that the tie suits his taste or expresses his personality. If you're even just a little bit creative you can make Dad a one of a kind tie that he'll surely cherish forever.
